Cody grew up in Northeast Ohio and graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2015 with his BS and MS in chemical engineering. Later that year he joined the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago to pursue his PhD. In his spare time he enjoys card and strategy games, comics, and reading.
Cody's research is focused on the self-assembly of polymer systems with a variety of applications in mind. In particular, the use of block copolymers as part of the fabrication of integrated circuits has motivated his research into the thin-film assembly of diblock copolymers with a focus on understanding and eliminating defective assemblies that fail to meet semiconductor design requirements. Furthermore, the utility of block copolymers as thermoplastic elastomers has led to his consideration of the assembly of non-linear block copolymers into novel morphologies of relevance to fabricating such materials, and computationally evaluating their mechanical performance. He is also interested in the use of machine learning in computational soft matter research and the role of sequence specificity in single chain assemblies.
