Guilhem was born in Paris, France and raised in the California bay area. He obtained his B.S. in chemistry at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo CA. While there, he worked with Prof. Philip Costanzo and prepared polymer surfactants for the dispersion of carbon nanotubes in aqueous media; this included an internship at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA. He then joined a doctoral program in chemistry at the University of Minnesota and joined the research group of Prof. Marc Hillmyer. Guilhem's doctoral work centered on the design, synthesis, and characterization of sustainable cross-linked plastics as well as their enzymatic degradation; the latter involved a long-term visit to work in the labs of Prof. Dr. Kris McNeill and Dr. Michael Sander at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. After obtaining his Ph.D., Guilhem joined the group of Prof. Matthew Tirrell and works primarily at Argonne National Laboratory.
