Hongyi grew up in Beijing, China. He received a B.S. in Chemistry from Purdue University in 2018. During his undergraduate research, Hongyi worked on synthesizing organic semiconducting polymers, as well as fabricating and characterizing organic field-effect transistors. He joined the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago in the fall of 2018 and is now co-advised by Professor Stuart Rowan and Professor Shrayesh Patel.
