Jacob P. Covey is the Associate Professor of Molecular Engineering in the UChicago Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering.

Covey specializes in atomic, molecular, and optical physics. As a quantum experimentalist, he focuses on arrays of neutral atoms in optical tweezers. Neutral atom arrays are one of the most scalable and promising technologies for quantum computers and represent an important component in UChicago PME’s research portfolio. In addition to his work in quantum, Covey will work in a wide range of areas, from fundamental physics to metrology to device engineering.

Covey is the recipient of the 2024 NSF CAREER Award, the Young Investigator Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), and the Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research (ONR).
