The University of Chicago’s Office of Research Safety (ORS) and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) oversee incident-specific responses in laboratory emergencies. Immediately after emergency treatment: Submit a work-related accident and incident report via the University of Chicago Accident Incident Reporting (UCAIR) System

If a situation seems life-threatening, or if you need immediate treatment of very serious or critical conditions, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.

- UChicago Student Wellness walk-in during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm)
- Dial 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
Dean-on-Call & Sexual Assault Dean-on-Call
- The Dean-on-Call is the University official responsible for providing referrals, information, and support to students during an emergency. This administrator is available 24/7. The Dean-on-Call will monitor an incident to make sure that adequate support continues even after the incident passes.
- The Sexual Assault Dean-on-Call is the University administrator specifically trained in trauma-informed Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention. This administrator is available 24/7.
Students can contact the Dean-on-Call and Sexual Assault Dean-on-Call by calling the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) at 773.702.8181. Please be prepared to leave a 10-digit call-back number as UCPD will page the Dean-on-Call or Sexual Assault Dean-on-Call for you. If you prefer to text the Dean-on-Call directly, utilize the UChicago Safe App to do so. Once you are in the UChicago Safe App, press the UChicago HELP button.
UChicago Police Department
The University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) is a full service, CALEA-accredited police department serving the University of Chicago and surrounding areas.

Emergency Financial Assistance Programs
The University has both emergency loans and emergency grants available to students. Examples of Emergency Assistance eligible emergencies include:
- Unanticipated/extraordinary medical and health expenses.
- Theft of personal items.
- Urgent travel and/or transportation needs.
- Temporary loss of housing and/or unanticipated moving expenses.
